Summary

Check if a research idea works in practice. If you’ve been researching an idea that could improve farming, you can apply for funding to check if it will work in practice. Projects can last for up to 2 years and should help you decide if it’s worth investing more in the development of a product or service.

Fund manager & award size

DEFRA partnered with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)

Total Farming Innovation Programme will be allocating £270 million. This stream is for projects with costs between £200,000 and £500,000. The fund covers up to 70% of the costs, but it depends whether costs are accrued by a business or a research organisation. See the fund website for additional details.

Eligibilty

You have to be a UK registered business to lead on a ‘Feasibility Studies’ project. You’ll need to collaborate with at least one other business or research organisation. Farmers, growers or foresters must be involved throughout the project. See the fund website for additional details.
