TDAG Toolkit: Trees, planning and development

Summary

This TDAG toolkit for urban trees comes in four parts. Section One covers the financial, social and environmental benefits trees offer in new developments, and how to secure them. Section Two looks beyond new developments and focuses on developing a strategy for a local urban forest to deliver the benefits that trees provide equitably across an urban environment. There is an Appendix on urban forest sustainability performance indicators for the UK, to help assess progress in delivering the goals of the strategic plan and to identify where and to what extent improvements are needed. Finally, there is a briefing note covering legislation, policy and guidance on trees and development throughout the UK.

This guide complements other TDAG publications: Trees in Hard Landscapes: A Guide for Delivery (see separate entry), and Trees in the Townscape: A Guide for Decision Makers (can be reached from the separate entry for the TDAG resource hub).
