Rejuvenation of hedgerows

Summary

This 2 page leaflet summarises the results of an experiment that tested five different methods of hedgerow rejuvenation: traditional Midland hedge-laying, conservation hedging, wildlife hedging, coppicing, and reshaping using a circular saw. The results include the costs entailed per 100 metres of hedge, time taken (minutes per metre), hedge heights and width, the effects on the hedge condition and growth, and the effect on berry production. The results will be very useful for anyone wanting to maximise the benefits of hedgerows for wildlife.
