Phase 1 Habitat Survey

Summary

The Phase 1 habitat survey guidance provides one of the habitat classification systems that can be used to assess habitat type and condition as part of a ground-truthing exercise, before any NbS interventions go ahead. The manual contains a description of each habitat found in the UK, including plant species that indicate the habitat type. See the Agile ground-truthing guidance document for further details.

Some practitioners are switching to the newer UKHab system, but many existing datasets still use Phase 1. Phase 1 is always free to use, whereas some usages of UKHab require a license fee to be paid.
