This report presents general principles for conserving freshwater habitats. It describes all the different types of freshwater and wetland habitats in England, their characteristic biodiversity value and ecological function, the natural and anthropogenic factors affecting them, the principles that should be applied to their management, and the main policy mechanisms involved in their conservation.
